How to make a Sonic OC here

  1. 1

    Pick an era

Modern Games asks for the sleek 3D look, Classic 90s for a short retro build (our test leaned toward a modern comic look), Anime for cel shading, Comic for a bold inked page.

  2. 2

    Choose species, colors and kit

Tap a Species, a Fur Color, an Eye Color, your Gear and an Ability. The default is an orange hedgehog with amber eyes, a scarf, goggles and a wind power.

  3. 3

    Name them and generate

Add a name, a personality or an extra detail in the optional box, then press Generate Character. Download the PNG once it shows up.

Why use this Sonic OC creator

Eight species, not just hedgehogs

Hedgehog, Fox, Echidna, Cat, Wolf, Bat, Rabbit and Hawk. Your three free tries let you compare a few species in the same colors, though each run draws a new character.

The power is part of the picture

The prompt asks for Wind, Super Speed, Fire, Ice, Lightning, Psychic or Nature as a visible effect around the character, not just a word on a card.

Four looks from the series

Modern 3D games, the classic 90s era, the TV anime and a comic style. Our second example is a Classic 90s lavender fox with fire; it came out closer to a modern comic look than a retro one.

Starts away from canon

The default is an orange hedgehog in a scarf, picked to stay away from famous characters, and the prompt asks the model to avoid canon outfits, marks and color schemes. An orange Fox can still drift close to canon, so check the result.

What to do with your Sonic-style character

Ideas for the character you get from the Sonic OC maker.

Avatar and banner

Crop the head for a profile picture and keep the full body for a pinned post.

RP and Discord

Drop the image into your character sheet so other players know the species, gear and power.

Fan comics and stories

Use the render as a model sheet while you draw or write the character's first adventure.

Commission reference

Send it to an artist with notes on what to keep, so the brief starts from a picture.

A trio for friends

Spend your three free tries on one speed, one flight and one power character for a shared story. Each run is drawn fresh, so the trio may not match perfectly.

Give your Sonic OC a team role

A simple way to give an OC purpose is a team role, such as speed, flight or power. A role makes an OC easier to write and easier to recognize.

The rows here map onto it. For speed, pair Hedgehog or Rabbit with Super Speed or Wind. For flight, try Bat or Hawk. For power, Echidna or Wolf with Armor fits. Psychic, Ice and Nature suit a support or wildcard role. Write the role and a weakness in the description, so the character feels like someone with a story, not a recolor.

Sonic OC mistakes to avoid

  • Mistake: Copying a famous character's fur and shoe colors

Do this instead: It reads as a recolor, not an OC. Start from Teal, Navy or Charcoal on a less common species, or change the gear.

  • Mistake: Five accent colors in the description

Do this instead: Keep a main fur color plus one accent. Clean two-color schemes read best at avatar size.

  • Mistake: Making the OC faster and stronger than everyone

Do this instead: Give them one ability from the row and a clear weakness in the box. Limits make better stories.

  • Mistake: Typing a canon character's name

Do this instead: The Sonic OC maker asks the model for new characters, but your text reaches it as written. Describe the trait you admire instead.
